Me, well sorta...
I’ve been married since 1977 to the love of my life, I’m Mom to three remarkable adult children, and Nana to the cutest kids on the planet. . . no bragging here ;-).
My all too addictive interests include, but aren’t limited to: Family, Photo Editing, . . .
Genealogy. . . I’ve raised my family, so now I raise the dead.
I’m also a very clever procrastinator.
I’ve started this blog, journal, or whatever it is, not knowing what it will become, but I hope at least my family will see that their gentle prodding has not been in vain.
Hi…. I’m delighted to find your genealogy entries, as I am a great-grandaughter of Emma Malinda Sullivan and have never seen a picture of her as a young woman.
i am not sure we’ve ever met. I’m the only child of Lorene Burchett Sumption, who was one of Nellie Richardson Burchett’s two daughters — Nellie being the only sister of Pearl. I do recall visiting Pearl several times when I was growing up, and visiting Elma a few times as well. Since I lived in Des Moines, I knew Lola best. Of course I heard of Barb and Patty, but don’t think we met. Now I live in Minneapolis, but I just returned from visiting Lamoni and Mt. Ayr over Memorial Day. I visited in Mt. Ayr with LaVon Thomas, now 96, last surviving child of Will Burchett and Mary Richardson Burchett, daughter of William and Ellen Richardson.
I am just beginning to gather up genealogical information to pass on to my children (two boys, Jeff and David) and two grandchildren (Emma, age 10, and Max, age 8). Is there some way I could get scans of your photos of Emma Sullivan, Pearl, and perhaps some of the other photos you might have? Do you have any photos of Andrew Richardson, or William & Ellen?
I would be delighted to correspond. Thank you for providing this information online.

I miss visiting with Lavon. She was buried in her wedding dress. I remember Lavon from the Richardson reunions. She always greeted everyone with “I’m here, everybody” and wore high heals and a full skirt. Very impressionable for a young child. My dad, Cloyd Richardson, would see her at dances wearing her heels into her 90s. She would always introduce my dad as “this is my cousin’s boy”. I loved hearing her talk. I haven’t seen many pictures of the Richardson family so I was so excited to see a picture of Ellen (Bradley) Richardson.
Thanks for your message, Linda. I’m glad you enjoyed the photo.
Dear Julie –
I saw your posting at Ancestry regarding Mary Jane Young who married William Sutton.
I am interested in finding the source of the statement that she was born in Bath, Maine. (I have slightly different birth location)
In particular I am interested in leads that will help me identify Mary Jane’s siblings (I know 2 but there are 3 other sisters and 3 other brothers who are presently unknown).
I can share with you the info that I have on Mary Jane’s parents and other ancestors in the Young line.
Best regards,
Andrew
A trip to Lincoln Center Cemetery this past Memorial Day had lead to all kinds of questions about R.E. Richards. I am the granddaughter of Harvey Richards, son of William. The magic of the net lead me to your blog. If possible would like to share more family heritage. I have some copies of the documents noted. Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
Dear Julie, I just found your blog while doing some random digging online. I too have an ancestor (sort of – he was the older brother of my great grandfather) who fought for the Union at Chicamauga and was captured, deemed not wounded enough to exchange, ended up at Danville VA and later died there from the conditions. I found your letter from your soldier to be chilling as I have several copies of letters Wilbur wrote to his parents before being captured. It is a great window into a brutal time in history.
Best regards,

Your screen name kept popping up on Ancestry and eventually lead me to here. 🙂 I’m as far back as Michael Castator, who would be my great-great-great-great grandfather. That’s where this link popped up. Castetter is the name of my grandfathers’ stepdad, so it’s not by blood, but it is fascinating. 🙂
Hi Julie.
Thanks for the info. I’m a descendant of Jacob Thomas & following in Blount Co, Tn. Your research has given me some more clues, & also added complications! Thanks!

Hi Julie,
I am the great granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin & Mary L Coleman Ward, I noticed you downloaded things from my ancestry.com. I was wondering how they fit in your family tree. Would love to hear from you.

I am reading the book Love and Valor about an Iowa Civil War Couple…and their letters they wrote during the war. Reminded me of the Richards letters …Thanks for posting all of the ones you had come across!
Do you happen to have the Watts name in Ripley County?
I reread the letters posted here and the others you had on your ancestory. Also the civil war diary. Were these all copied from copies or the originals? Interesting reading. My husband is a great great grandson of R E Richards.
I am also a great grandson of Richard E. Richards. About 30 years ago I visited the ancestral farm Eastern Hill, near Sambourne. The present owner very generously allowed us to walk around the farm and best of all invited us into the original old kitchen for tea and scones.
How wonderful! I wonder if some of my photos were those you took on that trip. Are you Paul?
