Okay, so I haven’t posted anything here for a while… uh… years. To sum it up in a few words, we’ve had some major life changes over the last 2-1/2 or so years. All our kids have married, and we sold our home and became apartment dwellers.

We’re pretty happy with our apartment complex and I like our larger, current apartment so much better than the first one we rented in the same complex… but ever since we moved in, I’ve hated having the A/C and furnace vents in such an awkward place in the living room. How can we live with an ugly main apartment wall?… embrace it and make it uglier!

Ikea has become my go-to store, and I saw these wall decals online to make a wall look like the plaster is peeling off. They stick and re-stick over and over without damage. Are we nuts? And when I say “we” I really mean “me.” Steve goes along with whatever! I’m trying to decide if I like the look or not. I’ve moved the spots around several times already. Sometimes I think they look a little like the spots on a brown and white dairy cow or an Appaloosa horse! I finally decided it needed a big metal wall blossom-sunbursty thingie to clutter it up more. I probably need to stop watching home design on a dime shows.

Zoe asked, “Why do you need fake brick?” I had no good answer! “Well, we don’t NEED fake brick… we just wanted something to look at besides the air conditioner vent.” Joel seems to think our eccentric stage in life has begun. He just smiled and shook his head…

We also bought an electric fireplace. Yes, for Texas, where we run the A/C nearly all year long. Online shopping is dangerous. It’s mostly just for the atmosphere of the flickering flame in the evenings, but it will put out heat if we ever want to use it that way. My living room decor also includes toys, board games and Zoe’s tea set for when she visits… and along the windows where one would expect a cozy chair is instead a fairly nice set of outdoor patio furniture we take out to the balcony to sit in on nice days and bring it back into the living room for extra seating when we’re done.

Yes, the centerpiece is an emptied out spaghetti sauce jar with green onions growing in water. Mom said I could always have green onion on hand if I did this, and by golly, she was right! When I cut off the green part, it grows right back in 2-3 days!
